Both sides emphasized their shared eagerness to foster cooperation across multiple sectors.

A Legacy of Diplomatic Relations

The relationship between Pakistan and Tunisia dates back to 1958, when Pakistan established its mission in Tunis shortly after Tunisia’s independence in 1956. Over the years, both nations have worked together in trade, education, and defense, building a solid foundation of trust and collaboration.

Trade Relations and Economic Opportunities

Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Tunisia reached approximately $13.58 million during the fiscal year 2023-2024. Pakistan’s exports to Tunisia include rice, textiles, and chemicals, while Tunisia’s primary exports to Pakistan consist of phosphates, olive oil, and textiles.
To further strengthen economic ties, Tunisia’s Trade Minister is expected to visit Pakistan soon to sign a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). This agreement aims to create new avenues for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Tourism and Cultural Exchange Initiatives

Tunisia is also keen to boost tourism ties with Pakistan. In 2024, plans for direct flights between the two countries were announced, with the goal of increasing tourism and cultural exchange. Tunisia, often referred to as the “gateway to Africa,” has highlighted its rich cultural heritage as a key attraction for Pakistani tourists.

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Collaboration

Both Pakistan and Tunisia recognize the potential to collaborate in areas such as education, tourism, technology, and trade. Their renewed commitment to strengthening ties reflects a shared vision of mutual prosperity and long-term partnership.

Conclusion

As both nations continue to explore new opportunities, their focus on strengthening bilateral relations marks a promising step forward in fostering a more robust partnership.
